Some of the many expenses of prom are:
Hair, nails, shoes, dress accessories (necklaces, wristlets, ankle bracelets, tiaras), the lim (transportation),
professional pictures, dress alterations, possibly flowers or a corsage, prom entry fees (you might have to pay, you might not),
dinner, drinks, after-prom food, maybe a hotel room, and more!

How much do you have budgeted to spend?
How much can your parents (if they're involved or they're paying) spend? $500? $1,000? $2,000?

If you can save $200-$300 on your dress alone, your parents will be thrilled, YOU will be thrilled, and you'll have that much more to spend
on your prom night, instead of giving up parts of it youu might really want to have.

I highly recommend that you shop early (shopping in March is VERY common). No, this isn't me trying to get you to buy a dress early, but it is a reality that lots of of the nice dresses and dress sizes sell out early... very early in the prom season.

You won't be happy if you go online to find a prom dress, expecting to save money or to get a specific dress, only to find that that dress is on back order, or is sold out in your color, size, or style. It does happen quite frequently, and girls that wait too long often get shut out of the dresses that they're looking for.

If you shop early enough, you'll also have time for alterations to the dress. Even though some internet sites have dress size calculators and places to help you figure out in your measurements, when you get the dress in your hands, the numbers may not match up and the dress may not fit like you want it to. This could be either because you deceived yourself when you put your measurements into the website (i.e. you didn't WANT to believe that your bust was a 36 when in fact it's a 38), or maybe you've gained or lost weight or have been exercising, or perhaps the particular dress you purchased runs smaller than other styles. The list goes on and on, so definitely make sure that your dress fits the way you want it to, and it doesn't bunch up or make you uncomfortable so you can have a fantastic night full of GOOD memories, not itchy and scratchy ones.

What's worse that going to prom night with a dress that just doesn't work with your body and work with you? If you're uncomfortable, how will you dance? How will you eat and move around the room, talk to your friends and your prom date without thinking constantly thinking about your dress? What if you have to fix your dress by pulling it up or down, or moving it around fifty times during your prom? That would really suck, so please take some good advice and order early. Have enough time for alterations, accessories and to shop for everything you need.
